About Us

C.A.T. (Cats Aid Tenerife) is an animal welfare association based in Tenerife, and our main aim is to castrate as many cats as possible here on the island.

We are not a refuge, and we do not remove or collect cats or kittens.  We are, to put it in its simplest terms, a plan of action, and wherever possible, we work with other animal welfare groups on the island to achieve the same goal – that is to reduce the suffering of animals.

Tenerife has vast numbers of cats who have either been abandoned, or are the offspring of cats who have been abandoned.  By slowing down the population increase, we aim to reduce the suffering of these unfortunate cats.

At its most extreme, one single fertile female can produce over 4,000 fertile females over the course of a two year period, if left un-checked.  However, huge numbers of these cats will die agonizing deaths during that two-year period.

Our modus operandi is T-N-R (Trap-Neuter-Release), and where possible, we expand on this simple and effective premise to T-T-V-N-R (Trap-Test-Vaccinate-Neuter-Release).

By slowing the increase in, and eventually reducing, the cat population, we aim to alleviate a lot of the suffering which goes on.

We have several cats in our care that cannot be re-homed, and we also maintain a colony of wild cats in Puerto Colon.  All of these Puerto Colon cats have been neutered are fed every single night, and their health and appearance is constantly being monitored.

All of this work requires funds for food, vets bill, injections and operations, plus we also need people who can donate time to help raise funds or trap cats for neutering.

If you can help us in any way, or you want to adopt or foster a cat in Tenerife, please contact us.

If you are able to donate ‘cold hard cash’ to help with our food and vets bills, please click the donate button on the left.

Thanks for visiting, and please have a look through the rest of the site!
